Several years ago I went on a hike with our son and daughter-in-law. It was a challenging trail, so we reserved our spots with an experienced Guide. To be completely transparent the only hiking I had ever done was on level trails, wearing tennis shoes. So, to prepare I bought a beautiful new pair of hiking boots and used REI points for a walking stick. I was pretty proud of myself as I got out of my car at the trail head - I looked like a seasoned professional.

Well, was I ever wrong. This trail was up and down and back and forth. More mud than trail if you ask me. Across creeks and down into ravines. Are you aware that when you slide down into a ravine you must climb back up the other side?
